YouTube Is A Jukebox

Runs on Ads, But Still The Best For Content

YouTubeYouTube is a creative content platform released in 2005.

May 22, 2022 — Back in the dawn of the Internet, which is only similar in concept to what it is today, YouTube was created by three employees of Paypal, Steve Chen, Chad Hurley, and Jawed Karim. It was eventually sold to Google, though there were several other video platforms that were created before it. The original concept of YouTube first came during the Superbowl XXXVIII halftime show controversy with Janet Jackson's nipple slip. When one of the creators tried to search for unfiltered available videos, search results were limited. However, YouTube also started with another concept before it evolved into its current one, an online video dating site.

Due to a lack of interest, particularly from women to upload videos of themselves online, it grew into a video website where any video could be uploaded. Considering the knowledge of the three founders, it began as a venture capitol-funded technology startup, with a Nike video featuring Ronaldinho. The video that received over one million views, with the website, launched on December 5, 2005, receiving a total of 8 million annual views. All uploaded clips were limited to 30 seconds and no more than 100 MB. Several other videos were soon uploaded including a skit from SNL, though many were removed due to copyright laws.

YouTube is a search-for-anything massive video library that will yield results as long as the keywords are right, it does not infringe upon a copyright, and it has been uploaded. Although there are many clips and scenes that simply cannot remain on YouTube due to copyright violations from companies that own the rights. Many of these companies, however, later changed their minds, and realized that the exposure beyond just the TV screen and on to the Internet was a way to get their works out there. YouTube soon became very popular for individuals creating news content or even allowing you into their daily lives, taking you along for a typical day. Many YouTube creators also focused on comedy and humor, with many skits and mini-shows circulating through their YouTube channels each week.

The costs to run the YouTube platform are astronomical, but because Google owns the platform, it technically somehow balances out, and it still remains Google's best investment to date. YouTube will forever be popular and despite many other popular platforms, such as TikTok, Instagram, and even Vine for a short time, it still has never witnessed a competitor, even as Vimeo serving as a solid and stable platform. Nearly everyone in the world is indoctrinated to know about or come across YouTube at some point in their lives. YouTube remains our way of staying connecting to the world and brings the world closer together in every way, especially when it comes to human connection.

Today, YouTube boasts the ability to upload an unlimited length of video and there is no limit for upload size. It has created a variety of different tools and even developed a network called YouTube Premium of original developed content featuring YouTube-created movies, ad-free videos, ability to download videos for viewing offline, music, and background play. YouTube generates over a billion hours of video per day or 500 minutes of content per minute and has over 2.5 billion active users. YouTube is like a jukebox, where you get to pick what you want to play.
